The first thing that I always tell the parents of my freshest of clientele- the brand new bundles of joy- is that the session belongs to the newborn and is run by them. So we follow the lead of these teeny tiny little models and feed, snuggle and rock them to their heart’s content throughout the session. But sometimes, modeling just isn’t what my favourite little clients had planned- and that’s okay.
I am in the business of serving people. People are the reason why I am a photographer. In school, I struggled with assignments that I couldn’t incorporate a person in. For me, I feel it is missing, well, life! And I think with an absence of someone’s emotion, I struggle to connect to my work. So my passion for photography is directly driven by the people I photograph. On the day we selected his newborn session, beautiful baby F wasn’t feeling up to his modeling debut, we set to work trying all of the tricks I have learned after five years of working with newborns and a lifetime of loving them. By the end of our time together, I knew that we had not captured the variety of images that I like to provide clients after a newborn session- so I suggested we schedule a “Welcome Baby F Part Deux”. And, thankfully mom and dad were game for an additional mini session a few days after the first.
It is so important to me that my clients leave my sessions feeling wonderful. Working with Caitlin Cleveland Photography is an experience. And it is important that my clients leave feeling happy and fulfilled. And, when my clients see their images, I want them to feel as though we have captured an irreplaceable moment of their lives.
