Northern writer, Joyce Caines, wandered West to Yellowknife from Baffin Island. So she is not a stranger to the North by any means. Yellowknife’s tree-ed and bush-style landscape is certainly fresh, but not new. This long-ago Southerner, with Ontario roots, ventured North during another chapter in her life and decided the people, landscape and lifestyle were just what Southern life was missing. Joyce is a writer. So, during today’s session we sought after locations and backdrops that would reflect her character as a writer and soul as an artist. I enjoyed the time we spent together and another opportunity to get to know another northern artist. Joyce will be presenting some of her readings as part of a compilation of artists at NACC at the end of October.
