Rachel

Today was a personal day. Today I photographed my little ‘baby’ sister-in-law. And, today was certainly bittersweet.

I first met this beautiful young lady when I started dating her big brother- she was ten years old and that was ten years ago. Every year since I finished my degree we have had an annual photoshoot complete with hair, make-up, lights, camera, lots of action, and even more giggles! That means Rachel is a pro with five years of experience of me dragging her in and out of my studio, shouting ‘pop your hip’, ‘giggle’, ‘little smile’, ‘hair flick’, ‘smirk’, ‘snicker’, ‘laugh out loud’, ‘look this way’, ‘look that way’. I am still surprised she understands what I mean!Â

Today was filled with the normal giggles and girl-bonding, but as I photographed Rachel I couldn’t believe how time had flown. Part of me was devastated that she was no longer the tiny ten year old cutie following her brother and I around. And the other part of me was so incredibly proud of the young woman she is quickly growing into.

Rachel you are strong, beautiful, smart, independent, and, of course, fun. I am so proud of you. I look forward to ten plus more years of adventures together, and twice as many photoshoots.
